Since the weather has turned chilly in the last few weeks, I've had a serious hankering for stew. Lucky for me, my dad hunts and is generous with the contents of his freezer, so I made venison stew to kick off autumn right. You could easily use beef instead, but if you're lucky enough to …
on my way to …
Vancouver (from Victoria)! P.S. More 'On My Way To ...' posts, if you're so inclined.
victoria.
Nick and I had the most magical weekend in Victoria. We realized that we've been there five times together, but this weekend was magnificent! We ate some great food, drank some delicious whiskey and generally loved the city. Victoria might be my new favourite getaway from Vancouver. It's just a hop-skip-a-bus-a-train-a-bus-a-ferry-and-a-bus away!
small joys.*
{Because, we've needed them lately and I'm glad that I bought them last year.} It's been a pretty good week, but a bit crazy! It's officially fall today, though it's felt that way for a week or two already. I've decided that the ol' blog header needed some new clothes for the season (and probably …
read: three day road.
I read Three Day Road about a month ago but let me tell you, it is a book that sticks with you! It has the hallmarks of classic Canadiana: isolation and nature. It was not an easy read, friends. It's sad and totally absorbing, but totally worth the read and incredibly well-written. I read it …

(I can't believe I just admitted that, since summer is the usual choice.) Growing up in Edmonton, where you'll miss autumn …
small joys.*
{Having morning coffee in bed on a week day is pretty luxurious.} This week has flown by. I managed to get quite a bit of work done this week, will fitting in some exercise and a bit of fun, too! This weekend will be pretty low key and I'm actually okay with the rain in …
busy (sewing) bee.
A great little starter sewing project for me: napkins!
maple (or hazelnut) oat scones.
I love scones (or biscuits, or whatever you want to call them). When I was little, my Nana would bake proper Scottish scones, and they seemed to me to be the most complicated and delicious things in the universe. Turns out, they're not that complicated! I make them a lot because they're really quick to …
small joys.*
{Flowers that have lasted all week and are still going strong.} This week has not been the best for me. It started out okay but just wasn't my week! (Does that ever happen to you?) I think that it's especially good to think about small joys on a week like this one. Anyway, I'm sure …
