WordCamp Vancouver 2012

Program for WordCamp Vancouver 2012

Instead of sleeping in on Saturday (yes, the day after the Technical Web Designer program at BCIT finished), I attended WordCamp Vancouver 2012. WordCamp’s talks were on a variety of topics including Search Engine Optimization, Growing Your Business, How to Build a Membership Website with WordPress, BuddyPress, PHP Documentation and a few other topics. I was really glad that I decided to go because I learned a lot more about WordPress and how to use it. My two favourite talks were by Grant Landram (Tips to Grow Your Professional WordPress Business) and Erica Hargreave (Demystifying SEO).

Both talks were on the lighter side, but in my mind pretty invaluable. Grant’s talk left me feeling really motivated about my business and finding my niche. He talked a lot about knowing what you do well, which is an important part of any business. Erica’s talk actually taught me some things about SEO that might be really helpful. Though I don’t pretend to know anything about SEO, she explained it in a way that was clear and practical. That best part about her talk was that she gave us a list of plugins that can improve your SEO and the security of your site (WordPress SEO, Sociable and Broken Link Checker), many of which I’ve now added to this here website.

Now I can’t wait for WordCamp Vancouver 2013!
